Once again the Dakota County Master Gardeners were at the fair in the Children’s Garden.  The theme for the garden this year was “Outer Space Spectacular” with plants highlighting the theme of each garden space for families to explore and have a “blast”!  Hope you had a chance to visit the Children’s Garden or saw us at the Dakota Village or the Ask A Master Gardener booth where we got to talk with over 500 people during the week.

 

Project Highlights: Dakota County Fairgrounds Children’s Garden

Each year during the Dakota County Fair, both children and adults get a chance to explore the Dakota County Master Gardener’s Children’s Garden. A different theme is chosen each year and a variety of fun activities and plantings are selected to highlight the theme.  The 2017 Children’ s Garden
featured a Dr. Seuss theme – “Oh the Gardens You’ll Grow!” based on the Seuss classic, “Oh the Places You’ll Go!”  The Garden was filled with Seussian accents and brightly colored stepping stones leading a self-guided, short walking tour.
Highlights included a sensory area, complete with a Seuss- themed bench to sit and rest a while, areas with bright and sunny plants and dark and black plants, (to name just a few),  and a covered bridge too.
“Bingo Cards” were available for kids to fill out by locating certain plants with sticker rewards handed out as prizes.  As always, the Children’s Garden, sponsored by the Dakota County Master Gardeners, and it’s activities are entirely free and fun for all. Can’t wait to see what amazing theme the creative and talented gardeners in this group come up with for the 2018 garden!
 

Join Us at the County Fair

Master Gardeners will be at the Dakota County Fair Monday, August 7 – Sunday, August 13 offering you and your family the opportunity to tour and learn about the Heritage Village gardens, explore the Children’s Garden and get your gardening questions answered.

Children’s Garden- Theme- Dr. Seuss-Oh, the flowers you will grow…..

Heritage Village Gardens

Master Gardeners will be in the Heritage Village gardens to answer questions from 4:30 7:30 Monday through Friday and offering tours of the gardens from 5:30 – 6:30 PM.

Ask a Master Gardener Table

Get your gardening questions answered at the Ask a Master Gardener table located adjacent to the Children’s Garden.  Master Gardeners will be available every day of the fair at the following times.  See you at the Fair!
